Are Seventh Day Adventists Teaching the Whole Truth?

Have you ever pondered on what foundation Jesus promised to build His church? The answer is simple: Christ Himself. Jesus declared that the truth of Him being the actual Son of the living God would be the rock upon which His church would be built. But is this truth widely grasped by the Seventh Day Adventist Church or other churches you’re familiar with? A closer look at their doctrine of the Trinity and what it implies might surprise you.
My Spiritual Journey
Let me share a snippet of my own journey. About three years ago, I was asked to leave my role as pastor of the Missoula Seventh Day Adventist Church. The reasons weren’t theological or moral, but more personal and political in nature. The next day happened to be on a Sabbath. Unbeknownst to me, a protest was staged that day by members of the congregation—something I have later dubbed as Protest Sabbath. As a result, I was encouraged by supporters, to continue my ministry in a home fellowship setting.
Discovering Truth: The One True God
It was during this time, that I started to discover the One True God truth versus Three in One Trinity. As I studied, this truth became clearer, and I felt compelled to share it with the members of our fellowship group. Truth is powerful—it can unite or it can divide.
As a result, I noticed that our fellowship group began to dwindle, but at the same time, it grew stronger.
Since that time, I have been asked, "What about reconciliation with the Seventh Day Adventist Church?" However, my answer is that I must follow God wherever he leads. Instead of asking, "What if?", our fellowship should say, "Thank you God for showing us this new path." and, "Where to now, Lord?"
Truth Isn’t Proprietary
Answer this question for yourself: Does the Seventh Day Adventist Church own spiritual truths? The Sabbath, health messages, and prophetic writings including Ellen White, are not exclusive to any one group. These messages are for anyone and everyone. Truth is universal. It’s the Ultimate Trump Card, surpassing church and denomination.
What is the Remnant Church?
Is the Seventh Day Adventist Church the only Remnant? The Bible describes the Remnant as, "those who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." This means it is not confined to buildings, corporations, or non-profit organizations. Jesus is the head of the Church and his followers are the "Body of Christ," not some worldly leader or general conference.
The Rock: Christ and the Truth
In Mathew 16:15, Jesus asks Peter, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answers, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Notice, Peter did not say, "You are the third member of the triune godhead." Nor did he say anything about role playing or being the "metaphorical" Son of God.
His answer was clear, "YOU ARE THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD!"
This truth is the pivotal Rock foundation upon which the church is built. The question is: Does the Seventh Day Adventist Church or any of the other main stream Christian denominations teach this truth? Since it is impossible for a coeternal, coequal, member of a trinity to be the literal Son of God, the logical conclusion must be a metaphorical or role playing son. This is exactly what the Seventh Day Adventists officially teach.
Who Keep the Commandments of God
By worshipping a false trinity, many Christians are breaking God's very first commandment: "You shall have no other gods before Me," by creating a third non-Biblical god, God the Holy Spirit. Nowhere in the Bible is God the Holy Spirit mentioned. Nor are we ever commanded to worship the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, Jesus himself acknowledges the Father as the Only True God and that we are to only worship him:
"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee THE ONLY TRUE GOD, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." John 17:3
In Mathew 4:10 Jesus says, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND HIM ONLY YOU SHALL SERVE."
These are but a few of the many examples of clear "Thus Sayeth the Lord," Biblical statements regarding the One True God and our obligation to worship and serve only Him. While most denominations claim to follow the Bible, and only the Bible, there is not a single clear, "Thus Sayeth the Lord," statement regarding the Trinity, Triune, or Three In One Godhead.
Spiritual Arrogance and Its Consequences
Spiritual arrogance blinds us to truth, as it did the Jewish nation during Christ’s time. It is arrogant for any church to claim that they are the only ones who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Assuming exclusive ownership of truth is dangerous for any denomination. The Sabbath, health message, and end time prophetic writings are for all, not just one group.
Commitment to Truth
This isn’t meant to be an attack on the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Rather, it’s a call to embrace truth and to follow Christ wherever He might lead us. Remember Jesus's promise in John 8:32, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make your free."
Let’s continue to seek and share the truth, for it’s through truth that we deepen our relationship with Christ.
